Agua Colonia – Mountain Adventure at Iloilo’s Southern Area
Southwest area of Iloilo is abundant of having mountainous land and hills. If you want to have a mountainous adventure, Alimodian is the ideal municipality for your unforgettable hiking experiences. Â It is approximately 38 km away from city proper consisting of 51 barangays and has rich production of agricultural resources like rice, corn, various local and high-value root crops, and bamboos.
One of the tourist attractions popular among hikers and trekkers at Alimodian is – Mount Agua Colonia. It is located at Brgy. Lico and the hike would probably take 3 to 4 hours. Expect a steep and slippery trail up the mountain. It’s a challenging trek because you will pass through steep trails on cogon grasses and dense mini jungle with plenty of flora and fauna. But, the breathtaking view of the Agua Colonia’s peak would probably take your exhaustion away. It will all be worth the hike! Â
There are around four peaks at Agua Colonia having remarkable rock formations. The most famous is Bato Dungok which it is compared by mountaineers to the iconic parrot’s beak of Mt. Pico De Loro in Cavite.
How To Get There
From Iloilo City, take a jeepney ride from Jaro Big Market going to Alimodian proper for an hour. At the municipality proper, visit the tourism office to secure a permit to hike at Mt. Agua Colonia for safety purposes. Then, hire a habal-habal (motorcycle) to bring you at the drop-off point, Brgy. Lico. At Brgy. Lico, look for any barangay official to accommodate you and provide you with a tour guide.
